Carolina Matovac, fiancée of Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin, received a standing ovation from fans during the Sabres' home game against the Boston Bruins on November 27, 2024, at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. It marked her first appearance at a Sabres game this season.[1][2]

Matovac, 25, was shown on the arena's jumbotron waving to the crowd, with Dahlin appearing alongside her in a split-screen shot. The Sabres public address announcer welcomed her, saying: "Welcome home to Carolina Matovac, the fiancée of our captain Rasmus Dahlin. She is back with us, attending her first game of the season. The Sabrehood loves you, Carolina."[1][2]

The appearance came months after Matovac suffered sudden heart failure in July 2024 while on vacation in southern France. She received life-saving CPR on multiple occasions and spent weeks on life support before undergoing a heart transplant in France.[3][4]

Dahlin detailed the ordeal in an open letter to fans posted to social media on September 11, 2024, crediting CPR for saving her life and noting the emotional toll of the "unimaginable" scenario.[3][4]

Matovac later revealed she was pregnant at the time of the heart failure, which prompted her initial hospital visit, but the unborn child did not survive. In an Instagram post, she wrote of the baby: "You will always hold a special place in our hearts as our first baby, even though we never had the chance to meet."[2][5]

Dahlin, a 24-year-old Swedish defenseman named the 21st captain in Sabres history on September 24, 2024, has 21 points (2 goals, 19 assists) in 24 games this season, second on the team to Tage Thompson's 25 points. The Sabres lost 3-2 to the Bruins and hold an 10-12-2 record, eighth in the Eastern Conference as they aim to end a 13-season playoff drought.[1][6]

KeyBank Center has been the Sabres' home since 1996, with a capacity of 19,070.[7]
