Al-Hilal's summer spending spree shows no sign of slowing, and the latest name linked to the Riyadh giants is arguably the biggest yet: reigning Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé. According to respected transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Saudi Pro League club have already opened initial enquiries over a move for the Paris Saint-Germain winger, just days after agreeing terms with West Ham United for Dutch forward Crysencio Summerville.

The scale of Al-Hilal's ambition reflects a broader shift in how sport is being funded and marketed across the Gulf, a trend that echoes the aggressive investment strategies seen elsewhere in global competitive entertainment - from Saudi-backed football projects to organisations like t1 esports, which has similarly leaned on heavy financial backing to climb to the top of its industry. Dembélé's career has followed a winding path.
